SPRING HAS ARRIVED

Senior Men's 3.0 Serve Up USTA League Season Opener

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- Senior Men's 3.0 defending champion Moss Creek Tornadoes started off on a lot of right feet Monday, sweeping all sets and courts in the USTA League Spring season opening day. Also taking three courts today, but in a different fashion, were the Spring Lake Court Jesters, winners of two three-set courts and one straight-setter. Senior Women's 3.5s launched their seasons Wednesday in HHI and Coastal Carolina leagues, while more levels begin next week.

Most levels will run through the end of April or very early May, setting up levels winners that will advance to the South Carolina Senior State Championships on Hilton Head Island and the Adult States Aiken and Greenville.

TENNIS E-News will post a weekly compilation of leaders in the various HHI and CCTA levels throughout the Spring and when Mixed, Combo and Super Seniors leagues play later in the year.

Belfair, Fiddler's Cove Miss

Sun City Baseliners Squeeze Out Championship in Senior Men's 3.0 Interclub

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- It was Tight City atop the standings of the Fall/Winter Senior Men's 3.0 Interclub, but clinched the final top spot with a win over Fiddler's Cove Travelers. Some very untimely (aren't they all?) complicated the final ranking and left several team matches unplayed.

The Baseliners, captained by Frank Frankel, finished with a 15.5-6 record. Belfair Bashers, captained by Bill Coakley, ended in a tight second place at 15-6. Fiddler's Cove ranked next with a 15-5 total.

Very Small Attendance

TAHHI By-Law Amendments Pass, Reducing Board Size; Reynecke New President
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- The Tennis Association of HHI conducted its annual business meeting last week, with few in attendance at the Center Court Conference Center in Palmetto Dunes. First item of business was adoption of two by-law amendments that cut the number of TAHHI board members from nine to five and eliminated two officer positions.

Three 2011 board members attended: Outgoing President Tracy Sklarin, Treasurer Tracy Castricone, who will continue in that office, and Gwen Ludvigsen, who is the new board secretary. The 2012 board consists of continuing members Castricone, Ludvigsen, Teri Rohan and Becky Davis and new member Jackie Reynecke, the 2012 board president who also is the USTA League Hilton Head Island local league coordinator.

Ray Pfeiffer will continue to serve as board member at large and Jim Purcell will continue as State Championships chair. Bruce Taylor is staying on as TAHHI's webmaster for the TAHHI.org website.

The amendment vote, in addition to reducing the numbers, also eliminated the positions of First Vice-President and Second Vice President.

Only four non-board members attended the annual meeting. Not present: Carrie Mason and David Camma, who did not continue board membership.
For a copy of TAHHI By-Laws and proxy go to the website www.TAHHI.org For additional information, email tahhi2010@hotmail.com.

 Changes Coming in a Year

#5 of the Top Five Most-Asked Questions About League Restructuring

        Q. This restructuring seems like a pretty big deal. When will there be more information on how it is all going to work?

         A. The USTA National regulations for restructuring will receive final approval in March. These regulations will provide all of the details on the restructured system. Then, additional regulations will be issued by the Southern Section and the USTA South Carolina for those league programs under their direction. However, all of the essential changes have already been approved and that information is currently available on various USTA websites (including www.sctennis.com).

From April through the fall, there will be a great deal of additional information and details on the actual implementation of league restructuring.
