Van Der Meer Shipyard Racquet Club, which won the bid for the championships last year, again will be headquarters site, with plenty of action also set for Palmetto Dunes, South Beach, Sea Pines Country Club, Long Cove and Port Royal.

HHI leagues will have three 60s teams and three 70s competing, while Coastal Carolina will be sending the same number in each age division. Most are 2011 South Carolina Super Senior state champions, while a few received wild cards into the draws that will have teams from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North and South Carolina and Tennessee.

Most divisions will play in-group round robins Friday the 2nd and Saturday the 3rd, with the group winners advancing to Sunday midday finals. Some divisions will have straight round robins among the four, five or six state champions entered.

Did someone mention economic impact? Projecting figures from earlier state and section championships, the weekend will provide more than $500,000 in total revenue to HHI and the area. Not to ignore how much HHI area teams will save by not having to travel and $pend at another resort.

Steps Leading to 2013 Changeover

USTA South Carolina Opens Website Page for League Age Restructuring in South Carolina

Ongoing Site will keep up with changes coming in our state leagues as well as Southern Section and National levels.

COLUMBIA SC (TENNIS E-News) -- Clammering by players for up-to-date information on the upcoming USTA League age restructuring has lead USTA South Carolina to set up a webpage feature to provide ongoing updates on steps toward the 2013 age shift that will change, among other things, the current 50s leagues to 40s and the current 60s to 55s. The "senior" designation will disappear and levels will be identified as "Adult 18 & Older", "Adult 40 & Older", "Adult 55 & Older" ... etc.

In a webpage letter, USTA SC President Paul Pittman states:

"USTA members from around the state have seen information and heard conversations on the planned USTA League restructuring scheduled to roll out in 2013. Since this restructuring impacts league programs run by USTA National, Southern and our own South Carolina, information is being released from national and southern offices that lacks information about SC league programming. As a result, there has been some confusion and even misinformation regarding how restructuring will affect your teams and you as a player.
"The USTA feels that the name change and division breakdown will allow players to have more opportunity to participate on teams and will give individual players the option to choose the levels of play that best fit their needs. One example: a 55-year-old player can choose to play in the 18 and Over Age Group, the 40 and Over Age Group, and the 55 and Over Age Group, if they so desire."

Go to www.sctennis.com and, under "News and Headlines", select "League Changes Letter" for the latest status of changed in South Carolina.

Southern Section Adopts 18s, 40s, 55s, 65s for 2013

USTA League Restructuring Chart Now Posted on www.southerntennis.com

On the right of the webpage, click on "USTA League Announces Restructuring" for the just-released  update.

Chart shows new age levels including Mixed and Combo Leagues ... and it's all "Adult"... no such thing as "Seniors"

For current and soon-to-be 70s and 75s players planning ahead,

USTA SC reports that the 65s results in 2013 league play will NOT count in year-end ratings.
