Player Draft for Teams
HHI Pros Plan Prize-Money League To Start in April
HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- Hilton Head Island tennis pros are organizing a Spring prize-money league that will play Fridays at 6 p.m. on three courts, with matches rotating sites each week. Free admission to spectators will give local and visiting fans a chance to see their pros in competitive action. Matches will begin April 29.
HHI Tennis Pros Association President Lee Holyoak and Vice President Matt Wuller foresee a six-week season, with a playoff between the top two teams. The local league is being patterned after Charleston Pro League that has been successfully running for a number of years. HHI league players have had a chance to see some of those matches that are played as State League Championships entertainment at Family Circle Tennis Center. Local pros can visit the Charleston website -- www.cptltennis.com -- to get see how that league works. Here is how Holyoak and Wuller see the HHI league shaping up:
Four HHI teams will be formed through a draft comprised of nine active players per team.
The season will consist of six regular season matches plus a final between the
two top teams. Matches will consist of three doubles matches to be played on
Friday evenings beginning at 6 pm at a different venue each week. Entry fee is
$100 per pro and prize money will be paid to players for each individual win
($30/pro/win). The league championship team also will receive a large
payout to be determined by the amount of sponsorship money received. The league
will be non-profit with all monies raised going toward prize money minus operational costs.
Sponsorships will be the key to success of the league, the
organizers said. Sponsor packages have been set up, including: Head sponsor - $1,000 and (4) Team sponsors - $500.
